FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount you agree to pay for your claims expense before your insurance coverage takes effect. For example, there is a theft in your home and the approved cost to replace your belongings is $4,500. With a $500 deductible, you pay for the first $500 of expenses and Mutual Fire Insurance would cover the remaining $4,000*. *Example only – each claim is adjusted individually with coverage to be determined based on your unique claims situation.

How is my home insurance premium calculated?

Many variables are considered when determining an insurance premium. This can include things such as the location and age of your dwelling, and your claims history, to determine your premium.

How can I get a discount?

Homes with security features like a burglar alarm or centrally monitored fire alarm are eligible for a discount. Consecutive loyalty, mortgage-free applicants, claims-free applicants, and new homes are also eligible for discounts. Ask your broker for more details on discounts available for your policy.
